An experimental piece that explores the efficiency and sexualization of contemporary society through acrobatics, dance and text. Who adapts, who decides?

How far are you willing to bend? is a performance series about power structures developed under the direction of Elise Reine, in collaboration with Östgötateatern. In five chapters, circus artists have in solo acts reflected on their experiences of pushing their own or others’ boundaries.

In the concluding chapter, Manifest, five artists come together to collectively search for answers. This chapter examines the efficiency and sexualization of contemporary society in an absurd and abstract universe. A faceless body. A myth. A dream. With curiosity and frustration, the concepts are twisted and turned in a quest to make room for a power shift. Fragmented bodies re-emerge, write poetry, dance to pounding rhythms, stir anger, and release laughter.

Elise Reine is a collective platform aimed at promoting experimental circus. Based in Copenhagen, it is composed of a group of internationally active circus artists, each with their own artistic integrity. They come together with the ambition to open minds to the unknown and contribute to a more inclusive and shame-free world – for circus, for art, and for humanity.
