Tancarville
Le G. Bistaki
A humorous, poetic, and liberatingly absurd circus dream wrapped in an extraordinary number of white sheets.
In Tancarville, the artistic company Le G. Bistaki invites us under a gigantic drying rack to embark on a whirlwind, absurd, and humorous journey through time and space in a dreamlike stream of frescoes and fantasies.
The sheet is both a personal and universal object with countless uses and qualities, while also being laden with symbolism. It preserves forgotten objects and memories, it envelopes dreams and intimacy. We are born in a sheet, we die in a sheet. In Tancarville (a French brand that has become synonymous with foldable drying racks), the sheet poetically and mundanely envelops both bodies and space – it transforms into headpieces and ghosts, to opera decor and juggling objects. The performers wrap us in fantastic worlds and living tableaux that evoke universal collective rituals.
Le G. Bistaki is a pioneering French circus company, founded in 2006 by five jugglers and dancers. They have inspired generations of young circus artists with their approach to redefining circus and performance art. With their new performance Tancarville, they continue their playful exploration of body, object, and space.
